I was born and raised in Central Vermont.

A bit over a decade ago, I married into the family of a master plumber. He had served the Mad River Valley community for many years and gently guided me toward the plumbing trade, passing the torch of his long service.

I began by working for five years in a commercial plumbing outfit, starting at the bottom and working my way up, doing everything from sweating joints and toting iron to installing boilers and AC systems. 

It was a great apprenticeship, but it showed me that what I really wanted was a more personal interaction with customers. So I hired on with a local residential plumber who specialized in high-end homes. That exposed me to just about every sort of home heating and plumbing system you can imagine.

Three years later, I decided it was time to venture out on my own. And so, in February 2020 Jacob Grout Plumbing and Heating was born. Despite the Covid crisis, I rapidly built up a sizable roster of satisfied clients. I have a Master Plumber’s License and carry $2 million in business liability insurance.

I feel strongly about giving back to the community that has helped to shape me. In the shadows of starting this business, I took over the local high school hockey team and helped guide them to their first championship in 15 years. Now that I have a family of my own, I want to show them what it means to take pride in your community, both through my business and through my volunteer work.
